Advice for visitors to Torres del Paine

It is everyone’s responsibility to care for the natural environment of Torres del Paine. In order to protect this beautiful region, the following list explains how we can minimize the environmental impact that humans have in the area.

What you can do to help us protect and conserve the National Park:

1. Respect the flora and fauna. Don’t damage the plants or animals and don’t bring in animals from outside the park. The biological balance here is extremely fragile.

2. Don’t leave litter in the Park. Keep a bag to hold all your litter until you get to the nearest town, so that nothing is left here that does not come from the park.

3. Use the battery banks. Used batteries are the most environmentally damaging waste product. Find deposits in campsites and hostels in which to leave your used batteries.

4. Respect the existing trails. Don’t leave the paths. Walking off the designated paths and trails leads to the rapid deterioration of the flora and fauna.

5. Camp in authorized zones. The campsites and hostels are carefully situated in the park, so respect them. You are not permitted for any reason to camp in unauthorized zones.

6. Do not start a route if you are not capable of arriving at the next campsite before nightfall. At the start of each path there are signs that indicate the amount of time needed to finish the route. Never start a route if you cannot reach the next campsite before it gets dark.
